## The short answer

PushUp Time does one thing: finish a set of push-ups, squats or sit-ups and your apps open for 15 to 120 minutes. It's quick to set up and works on iPad too, but you need a Premium subscription to use it. Fitlock has a free plan with no time limit, blocks on a schedule you set once, and counts steps, workouts and other Apple Health goals as well as camera-counted push-ups and squats.

### Choose Fitlock if

- You want to try it free, and keep using it free if one goal is enough
- You'd like a daily walk, a logged workout or getting to the gym to count, not only reps
- You want blocking to follow recurring or one-off schedules you set

### Choose PushUp Time if

- You only want reps, and a fixed unlock window of 15 to 120 minutes
- You want to use it on an iPad as well as an iPhone
- You'd like the app in Arabic, Hindi, Korean, Russian or Turkish

PushUp Time and Fitlock both put a physical task between you and your distracting apps, and both count reps with the camera on your phone. The difference is how much else each one counts, and what you pay to use it.

## How PushUp Time works

PushUp Time blocks the apps you choose through Apple’s Screen Time. When you try to open one, you open PushUp Time, pick push-ups, squats or sit-ups, and do your set while the camera counts the reps on the device. Finish it and your apps open for the window you chose: 15, 30, 60 or 120 minutes, for one app or for all of them. It works on iPhone and iPad, needs no internet connection, and comes in twelve languages. To use it, you need PushUp Time Premium.

## How Fitlock works as a PushUp Time alternative

Fitlock also counts push-ups and squats with the camera, but reps are only one kind of goal. You set a schedule, choose the apps or websites to block, and pick what earns your screen time: steps, a workout, stand time, cycling distance, meditation, time outside, reaching a place, wheelchair pushes, or reps. Apple Health does the counting for everything except reps and places, so a walk or a workout your Apple Watch logged already counts. Once you hit your goal, the apps open.

Schedules can repeat every week or run just once, and you can start the day with an allowance of screen time before the locks begin. A place can be a goal too: arrive at the gym, the office or school and Fitlock unlocks your apps, or earns you time, as soon as you get there.

If you need to get in earlier, you can take a break, and each extra one makes you wait longer. Strict Mode (Fitlock Pro) removes breaks.

## The real difference

PushUp Time asks for a set of reps each time you want back in. That’s a clear, simple deal, and it works well if bodyweight exercise is exactly what you want more of. Fitlock asks you to hit a goal for the day, which can be the movement you’d do anyway. That suits people who walk, run, cycle or go to the gym and want those to count, and people for whom push-ups aren’t realistic: wheelchair pushes are one of Fitlock’s free goals.

Cost is the other difference. You can use Fitlock free for as long as you like with one schedule, two apps or sites and one goal, and Pro costs less than PushUp Time Premium. See [pricing](https://fitlock.io/pricing/) for what each tier includes.

## Where PushUp Time may suit you better

PushUp Time runs on iPad as well as iPhone, while Fitlock is designed for iPhone. It’s also available in more languages, including Arabic, Hindi, Korean, Russian and Turkish, and its fixed unlock windows make it easy to know exactly how much time a set buys you. ## Questions people ask

**Is Fitlock a good alternative to PushUp Time?**

Yes, especially if you want a free plan. Both apps count push-ups and squats with the camera on your device. Fitlock also counts steps, workouts and other Apple Health goals, blocks on a schedule, and is free for one schedule, two apps or sites and one goal. Fitlock Pro costs $2.99 a month, $19.99 a year or $49.99 once.

**Is PushUp Time free?**

The download is free, but blocking needs a Premium subscription. Its App Store description lists Premium at $12.99 a month or $29.99 a year in the US.

**How long does PushUp Time unlock apps for?**

You choose an unlock window of 15, 30, 60 or 120 minutes, and you can unlock one app or all of them at once. Fitlock works per day instead: once you hit your goal, the schedule's apps open, and rules can earn you extra time.

**Do both apps need the internet to count reps?**

No. PushUp Time says its rep counting works without an internet connection, and Fitlock counts push-ups and squats on the device too.
